Ayurvedic approach to treat Acne!!!!!

Acne is one of the most common skin disorders. Adolescent acne typically begins at puberty, when there is a rise in testosterone. This time period marks the end of the kapha stage of life, childhood, and the beginning of the pitta stage of life, adulthood. The hormonal changes and emotional energies of adolescence result in a rise in pitta dosha, creating pitta-type imbalances, such as acne. Acne can also happen later in adulthood and is typically caused by hormonal shifts, ama or toxins in the body, and/or emotional stress.

The skin works as an organ of elimination, naturally seeking to remove the excess pitta and toxins from the body. Psychologically, acne can have devastating effects on one’s self-image, negatively affecting self-esteem and often leading to depression. Ayurveda offers simple remedies and a natural approach combining a healthful diet, herbs, lifestyle recommendations, pranayama, and meditation to help soothe the body and promote clear, healthy skin.     Ayurveda- the science of long life,is the longest health tradition and a complete system of medicine and healing(including surgery) based on nature. The word Ayurveda is composed of Ayu-which means life and veda which means knowledge.Ayurveda has Holistic approach to Disease which occurs when the original form encounters change at psychological or physiological level.
To regulate health in the living body,Ayurveda concised the panchabhootas-the five basic elements of nature, into tridoshas, namely vata, pitta and kapha. In diseased condition, the doshas manifest their particular symptoms denoting loss of natural rhythm or malfunction. The purpose of treatment  of the disease is to bring the tridoshas in equilibrium ie back to their natural rhythm. This is acheived through Ayurvedic medicines which are made from wide range of various plant parts that are available in nature around us.These medicines are manufactured by extensive processes as prescribed by the ancient texts.Various clinical studies have now confirmed the effectiveness of Ayurvedic medicine and hence Ayurveda can no longer be called as pseudo-science.

Purify your Body And Soul by Panchakarma!

PANCHAKARMA as the name suggests, Pancha in Sanskrit stands for Five and Karma are the therapeutic measures,  therefore Panchakarma means five types of therapeutic measures. These are undertaken for the purification of the body and Ayurveda considers it necessary before the start of any other therapy.
The Panchakarma therapy of Ayurveda is comprised of five basic types of advanced treatment for the evacuation of vitiated Dosha (toxic materials) from the body. One can consider this as a body de-tox program. There are so many subtypes of this therapy and different types of herbal massages, fomentation’s such as steam, external oil treatments, Basti (medicated enemas), Virechana (purgation through herbs), Vamana (emesis through herbs), Nasya (nasal administration of oils) etc. are also incorporated. These practices are extremely helpful in relieving deep seated diseases as well as being beneficial for maintaining and improving physical and mental health.
Snehana (Abhyangam) is the oil massage. Oil is applied to the entire body with a particular type of massage which helps the toxins to move towards the gastro-intestinal tract. Oil massage also makes the superficial and deep tissues soft and supple, thus helping to remove stress and to nourish the nervous system. Snehana is given daily for three to seven days, as indicated.
Swedana is sudation or sweating and is given every day immediately following the Snehana. An herbal concoction may be added to the steam to further loosen the toxins from the individual. Swedana liquefies the toxins and increases the movement of toxins into the gastro-intestinal tract.
Vamana: Emesis Therapy:
When there is congestion in the lungs causing repeated attacks of bronchitis, colds, cough or asthma, the Ayurvedic treatment is therapeutic vomiting - Vamana, to eliminate the Kapha whic is causing the excess mucus.
Virechana: Purgation Therapy
:When excess bile, Pitta, is secreted and accumulated in the gall bladder, liver and small intestine, it tends to result in rashes, skin inflammation, acne, chronic attacks of fever, vomiting, nausea and jaundice. Ayurvedic literature suggests in these conditions the administration of therapeutic purgation or a therapeutic laxative.
Nasya: Nasal Administration:The nose is the doorway to the brain and it is also the doorway to consciousness. The nasal administration of medication is called Nasya. An excess of bodily humors accumulated in the sinus, throat, nose or head areas is eliminated by means of the nearest possible opening, the nose.
Basti: Enema Therapy
Vata’s predominant site is the colon. Ayurvedic Basti involves the introduction into the rectum of herbal concoctions of sesame oil, and certain herbal preparations in a liquid medium. Basti, is the most effective treatment of Vata disorders, although many enemas over a prescribed period of time are usually required. It relieves constipation, distention, chronic fever, cold, sexual disorders, kidney stones, heart pain, backache, sciatica and other pains in the joints. Many other Vata disorders such as arthritis, rheumatism, gout, muscle spasms and headaches may also be treated with Basti. Basti therapy is divided in two main types - Anuvasana Basti - medicated oil enemas and Niruha Basti - medicated enema of decoctions and medicated oils.

Benefits:

*Eliminate toxins and toxic conditions from your body and mind.
*Restore your constitutional balance improving health and wellness.
*Strengthen your immune system and become more resistant to illness.
*Reverse the negative effects of stress on your body and mind thereby slowing the aging process.
*Enhance your self-reliance, strength, energy, vitality and mental clarity.
*Bring about deep relaxation and sense of well-being.

Common kitchen Spice Cinnamom and Diabetes!

Recent studies have determined that consuming as little as one-half teaspoon of Cinnamon each day may reduce blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels by as much as 20% in Type II diabetes patients who are not taking insulin.

It is mildly carminative and used to treat nausea and flatulence. It is also used alone or in combination to treat diarrhoea. A helpful remedy, for those developing a cough accompanied by frequent spitting of whitish phlegm, is chewing and swallowing a very small pinch of powdered cinnamon. This remedy can also help people with cold feet and hands, especially at night.

The primary chemical constituents of this herb include cinnamaldehyde, gum, tannin, mannitol, coumarins, and essential oils (aldehydes, eugenol, pinene). Cinnamon is predominantly used as a carminative addition to herbal prescriptions. It is used in flatulent dyspepsia, dyspepsia with nausea, intestinal colic and digestive atony associated with cold & debilitated conditions. It relieves nausea and vomiting, and, because of its mild astringency, it is particularly useful in infantile diarrhoea. The cinnamaldehyde component is hypotensive and spasmolytic, and increases peripheral blood flow. The essential oil of this herb is a potent antibacterial, anti-fungal, and uterine stimulant. The various terpenoids found in the volatile oil are believed to account for Cinnamon’s medicinal effects. Test tube studies also show that Cinnamon can augment the action of insulin.
